Tooth brush, Tooth paste & Mouth Wash

Tooth brush, Tooth paste & Mouth Wash
Tooth brush, Tooth paste & Mouth Wash is primarily used to maintain proper oral hygiene. This a very common question to a Dentist, that what tooth paste should i use, which company tooth brush & mouth wash should i use? In this article I will discuss on this topic.

                                          Tooth Paste
Toothpaste is gel or paste dentifrice used with a toothbrush as an accessory to clean and maintain the aesthetics, oral hygiene and health of teeth. In the market so many available tooth paste is there like Colgate, Pepsodent, Close-up, Dabur, Sensodyne, Glister & Dant kanti etc. Tooth brushing technique is also important to clean tooth properly. I said about Brushing technique in my last article, read that.

Component of tooth paste:
  • Abrasives- To remove tarktar & plaque & stains. Common abrasives include alumina, calcium carbonate,  dicalcium phosphate, silica and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).
  • Detergents: Its also known as  foaming agents or surfactants & soap. Common detergents include sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium lauryl sacrosinate.
  • Fluoride: Fluoride in toothpaste has beneficial effects on the formation of dental enamel helps tp prevent from caries.  stannous fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate and olaflur  are also commonly used
  • Coloring Agents & Flavor: It's to improve the taste & color of toothpaste
  • Humectants: Used to maintain a consistent paste-like texture and retain water in the toothpaste. Retaining water prevents the separation of liquid and solid.
  • Antibacterial agents: Triclosan, is a common toothpaste ingredient in the United Kingdom. Triclosan or zinc chloride prevent gingivitis and, according to the American Dental Association, helps reduce tartar and bad breath.
  • Preservatives: It's to prevent the growth of microorganisms in the toothpaste.
  • Bleaching agent: It is used to whitening the tooth,Peroxide, citroxain, and certain abrasives commonly used.
My suggestion before using tooth paste:
I won't suggest you any brand name here, but I will suggest you to use any standard tooth paste. I have seen some paste is more abrasive, which causes tooth erosion & abrasion. Some tooth paste is there to stop Sensitivity, use sensitivity tooth paste if you are having sensitivity. Before using tooth paste you should know the purpose of using. for preventive purpose you can use Fluoride tooth paste, after dentist advice. Commonly I don't suggest patient to use tooth whitening tooth paste, because i noticed some side effect of this tooth paste.

Tooth Brush
So many brand tooth brush is there in market, but don't use any hard tooth brush, use soft or medium bristle tooth brush. You can use Electric tooth brush, its good. Every 3-4 month change your brush. Brush your tooth twice daily, for 3-5 min. Brush your tooth in proper technique to clean properly. I said about Brushing technique in my last article, read that.

Mouth Wash
Mouthwashes are antiseptic solutions intended to reduce the microbial load in the oral cavity. It also has analgesicanti-inflammatory or anti-fungal action in mouth. I prefer of using Chlorhexidine mouth wash & Betadine mouth wash. If you are using more mouth wash then you can stain on your tooth. It's can helps to prevent you from Caries, gum problem & other infections.
