Dental, Tooth Anatomy & Supporting Structures

This is my second Blog, in this I will discuss on Dental, Tooth Anatomy & Supporting Structures.


Different parts of Tooth:

Tooth Structures:
Enamel: It is the outer most parts of Crown portion of tooth. Enamel is the hardest, most mineralized hard tissue in the body.  

Dentin: This second layer of the tooth under the Enamel & Cementum of Crown & Root portion. In Dentin one of the important structure in Dentinal Tubule, when it is exposed then tooth causes tooth sensitivity, later can causes pain.

Cementum: It is the outer most parts of Root portion of tooth.It is the part of the periodontium that attaches the teeth to the alveolar bone by anchoring the periodontal ligament.

Pulp: Inside of Dentin the soft tissue found in the center of all teeth, where the nerve tissue and blood vessels are. If tooth decay reaches the pulp, you usually feel pain.



Tooth Supporting Structure or Periodontium: In The Periodontium consists of four principal components :
  • Gingiva or the Gum
  • Cementum, covering the root of the tooth
  • Alveolar Bone
  • Periodontal ligament




    Tooth & Supporting Structure


Different Types of Teeth: Incisor,Canine,Premolar & Molar. 
Milk Tooth or Deciduous tooth- Totally 20 in number. It is in each side-Upper or Lower consist of 2 Incisor,1 Canine, 2 Molars
Permanent Tooth: Totally 32 in number. It is in each side-Upper or Lower consist of  2 Incisor,1 Canine,2 Premolar, 3 Molars
